Before You Sign on the Line ...
A Few Things to Know
Below are some of the obvious, but seldom done, steps you should take when searching for a web designer. Follow these and you won't be disappointed.
- Ask for references. THEN contact the references and look closely at their sites!
- Find someone who speaks your language. It is not as important that they know your industry as it is that you are able to communicate effectively and efficiently with them!
- Design your bid proposal (RFP) to allow you to include interviews and followup questions during the bid process. If one proposal contains an aspect you like but was not included in your RFP, go back to the other bidders and ask if they can provide something similiar. Compare the results in a one-to-one matrix. Lund & Lund has prepared an "Apples to Pears" checklist to help you get started.
- Find out about their turnaround time on update requests. Your site should be continually evolving and your webmaster must be responsive to your needs.
- Will they allow you access to the site to do your own updates once it is on-line? What tools will they provide for you to become your own webmaster?
- Ask about monthly or yearly costs once your site is on-line.
- Will they support you if you do your own updates?
